Between the ongoing pandemic and extreme weather events, small-scale farmers overcame extraordinary challenges to feed their communities this season. As the days grow shorter and the daily pace of farm life begins to slow, we invite you to join us for a virtual gathering to celebrate the season and learn more about the daily joys and heartaches of small-scale farming.
Hear first-hand about forging a life and a living on the land. After taking us on a brief, pre-filmed pasture walk, Marleen van Gulick and Dan Carr will join us live to answer your questions and share their experience growing a business and raising a family at Beavertides Farm. We'll talk beekeeping, launching a community-focused farm operation, pursuing environmental and financial sustainability on the farm, managing mischievous animals, and more!
We'll share our favorite seasonal cocktail and mocktail recipes – featuring local ingredients – before the event, so you can prepare a tasty refreshment to enjoy during the tour and Q&A session. So, throw a log on the fire, put on your favorite wool socks, and settle in for a cozy cocktail hour with two of our region's fantastic farmers and a gathering of fellow farm and food enthusiasts. We look forward to seeing you there!
Registration is required, with a suggested donation of $35. Two lucky attendees will win a jar of Beavertides honey or a Carrot Project hat!
Dan and Marleen raise sheep, goats, bees, and their two young sons at Beavertides Farm in Falls Village, CT. Committed to protecting and enhancing the biodiversity of the pastures, woodland, and wetland that make up their farm, they focus on small ruminants that suite the contours of the land. In addition to producing honey and meat, they are also passionate about making their farm a place that fosters community, so they teach classes, host events, and offer Farm Club memberships to engage their customers and neighbors.
The Carrot Project supports agricultural businesses, securing their futures by breaking down financial barriers and building their path to sustainability. Learn more about our work.
This year, join us for a series of virtual (online-only) gatherings to hear directly from farmers, connect with friends, and learn how you can be a part of a just and resilient farm and food system that works for all of us.
This events series celebrates and supports the many changes and transitions of the year ahead. What have we learned over the past year, in all its challenges and opportunities, and what do we want to hold on to? Our work is coalescing around the new directions laid out in our new 2023 strategic plan. It renews our commitment to our core work of helping farms and food businesses succeed, while challenging us to grow and change as we place our work in the context of a just and resilient food system by centering racial and economic justice in our programs. We look forward to sharing more with you soon and invite you to join us on this journey.
